Dentistry with no impressions is an important part of providing our patients in London with the highest quality dental care.
Dr Paul Abrahams was very pleased to have been asked to present in the Live Theatre at the British dental trade association (BDTA) dental Showcase in October 2012. Dr Abrahams has been in general dental practice since 1993 and has a particular interest in cosmetic and implant dentistry, and this presentation on the use of digital dentistry further increases his reputation.
Dr Abrahams uses the iTero Digital dentistry system from Straumann in his north London dental practice. This digital system removes the need to have conventional dental impressions which many patients find causes them discomfort through gagging. With digital impressions, this north London dentist can accurately tell on the computer screen how well your teeth are represented digitally. He can then make adjustments to the preparations for dental crowns and see the results on the large computer screen.
Digital compression technology is also useful when undertaking dental implants. The system allows for an accurate representation of the dental implant in your mouth through to the laboratory where the implant and/or crowns are made.
iTero can also be used for Invisalign invisible braces, traditionally a rubber dental impression would be sent to the Invisalign laboratory in America. Using the digital dentistry system created by Straumann Dr Abrahams can ensure more accurate treatment and a reduced risk of the impression either being lost in the post or becoming distorted during transit.
By eliminating the need for conventional dental impressions this makes the whole procedure and process far more accurate. Conventional rubber-based dental impressions are highly stable and accurate, but at the end of the day, they are still a physical representation of your jaw into which the dental technician pours dental plaster. Digital impressions remove any chance of distortion in the dental impression and rather than pouring in dental plaster the model of your jaw and teeth is made on a computerised milling machine.
Dr Paul Abrahams is one of the few dentists in the UK that use this innovative technology to increase the quality and comfort of the care that he offers to the local patients in St John’s Wood, Hampstead and North London.
