Decrease the Appearance of Wrinkles

We use small doses of a naturally-occurring bacterial protein and inject the substance under your skin and into specific facial muscles.
The protein does not affect the muscles themselves, it works by blocking the transmitters between the muscle’s motor nerves. By blocking the nerve signal, the muscle cannot contract in its usual dynamic motion – the movement that causes wrinkles to happen in the first place. As a result, the muscles responsible for these contractions cause wrinkles to relax, and the skin starts to smooth out. Usually after a few days, patients start to notice changes in the appearance of their fine lines and wrinkles. Our anti-wrinkle injection treatment is for adult patients under 65 years.
Patients who are self-conscious about their wrinkles may be interested in our anti-wrinkle injection treatment. This treatment is used for the temporary improvement of facial areas such as:
  • Glabellar lines (the vertical lines between the eyebrows)

A Treatment for Extreme Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Some patients come to us for treatment of hyperhidrosis. This condition is characterised by abnormally excessive sweating that is not necessarily related to a rise in temperature or the result of physical activity.

In the most common form of hyperhidrosis, the nerves responsible for signaling your sweat glands work overtime, even though they haven’t been triggered by exercise or heat. There is no medical cause for this type of hyperhidrosis, though the condition causes certain areas of your body to sweat more than they should. As a result, some patients become embarrassed and need a way to get the sweating under control.

The same naturally-occurring bacterial protein we use for anti-wrinkle treatment can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis. We treat excessive sweating by injecting the protein into the armpits of patients who want to better manage their hyperhidrosis.

The protein injections temporarily block the chemical in the body that’s responsible for stimulating the sweat glands. When the sweat glands aren’t triggered, the sweating stops. Most patients notice less sweating four or five days after receiving the protein injections. Reduced sweating lasts approximately four to six months (sometimes longer). When the sweating returns, patients can make another appointment for treatment. Please note, this treatment should be given under the advice from your General Practitioner. In cases of secondary hyperhidrosis, the excessive sweating is a symptom of a medical condition, which should be treated by your doctor.

What to Expect During a Consultation

Before proceeding with anti-wrinkle injections or hyperhidrosis treatment, we invite our patients to visit us for a free consultation. We treat each patient individually, and these consultations enable us to treat your specific skin issues. During this time, we discuss your medical history, skincare regime, and your concerns. Based on our conversation and an assessment of your skin, we can suggest treatments that align with your objectives.

Your Anti-Wrinkle Injection Appointment

Before we lift a syringe, we make sure you are comfortable and answer any last-minute questions you may have. We ask that you do not wear make-up for your appointment. We thoroughly disinfect the treatment area and study your facial muscles to see how they work, as we do not take a cookie cutter approach to any treatment in our practice.

We carefully inject the protein into the targeted muscles with a fine needle. The injections are typically painless, but we can use a local anaesthetic cream prior to treatment if a patient requests it.

Treatment sessions generally last around 15 minutes. Patients can return to their usual daily activities immediately after leaving our practice.

Results are not immediate. It takes an average of two or three days for anti-wrinkle injection treatment to start working, and takes two weeks for the full effect to be seen. Facial injections typically last three to five months, at which point patients can book another appointment.

Are There Any Side Effects?

As with other types of treatment, protein injections may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If there are any reactions, they are generally minimal and temporary.

The most common side effects are redness, a little bit of swelling, minor irritation around the injection site, stinging, brushing or a little bit of bleeding. Normally these reactions are mild to moderate, reversible and occur in the first week after treatment. There is also a small possibility of slight drooping of the eyelid or visual problems.
